Aloha and welcome to "Hawaii Hydrogen", providing information about hydrogen programs and projects in Hawaii. Hawaii’s renewables-to-hydrogen program is building on a solid foundation in renewable energy, hydrogen, and fuel cell technology research, development, and demonstration through the efforts of the University of Hawaii at Manoa’s Department of Chemistry, and the Hawaii Natural Energy Institute (HNEI); the Hawaii Center for Advanced Transportation Technology (HCATT), and partners in State and federal government and private industry.
In 2006, Act 240 established the State Renewable Hydrogen Program for the increased use of the State’s indigenous renewable energy resources using hydrogen as an energy carrier. To support this objective, the State also established a $10 million hydrogen investment capital special fund to attract federal and private investment toward development of a hydrogen infrastructure and related technologies. The fund is administered by the Department of Business, Economic Development and Tourism (DBEDT). |
